Learn to Derby

Entry point into roller derby for ages 16+

Overview

Our Learn to Derby program is the next step in your roller derby journey, designed for skaters who already have foundational skating skills and are ready to progress into contact and gameplay. This is not a beginner skating class—participants are expected to have developed basic skate control, typically through Skate Fit, which builds the core skills needed to enter Learn to Derby. If you believe you have the required skills, you’ll be assessed in Skate Fit first to ensure you’re placed in the appropriate program.

Who is this for
  • Ages 16+ 

  • All genders welcome 

  • Skaters with basic skating ability (or completion of Skate Fit / Learn to Skate) 

  • Skaters ready to progress into roller derby gameplay and contact

What you'll do
  • Learn roller derby rules and gameplay basics 

  • Develop derby-specific skating skills and controlled contact techniques Practice safe engagement, teamwork, and positional awareness 

  • Participate in structured drills and scrimmage-style training activities

When
  • 7:30 - 9:00pm

  • Mondays (weekly training session) 

  • Additional Scrimmage opportunities

Cost

$150 per term + insurance fee
